7:06 pm - [So with sadness in my heart, feel the best thing I could do is end it all and leave forever]
|
This may very well be my final entry ever on livejournal. It seems the site is under threat of a mighty axe and may not survive much longer. For those of you that aren't aware, as I was until yesterday, LiveJournal was bought by a Russian company about a year ago. A few days ago they fired just under half of lj's staff. Rumor are rampant, but lj probably isn't profitable. I just completed backing up my whole journal; used a cool little app called ljArchive. It made a nice backup that's browseable as if you were reading lj on your comp... even backed up the comments. Heard there are some problems with larger journals, but with my 190 posts, I had no problems. A post within an lj dev community had some links to an alt version of ljArchive that apparently is patched to handle very large journals. Link
Here are the links to the news of ljs possible impending demise: metafilter and gawker.
You should all check out my friend Brian's website Thing of Things. You can also check him out over at ANN. He's recently taken over the reigns of the Answerman column from another one of our friends, Zac.
